In the summer of 2020, Bernice Johnson, winner of a Managerial Leadership Award at the 2013 Women of Color STEM Conference, began a new job at a multinational pharmaceutical company. A year earlier, Johnson completed an Executive Education for Sustainability Leadership certificate at Harvard University.
Currently, Johnson is vice president of tech capability development and a member of the GSK Tech Senior Leaders Group, which is accountable for delivering value for patients and consumers while motivating and developing others in their journey to become extraordinary leaders.
Before taking up her new appointment, Johnson worked with Girl Scouts of the USA as vice president in the Greater New York City Area.
Girl Scouts of the USA is a leadership development organization for 2.6 million people, including 1.8 million girls and 800,000 adults.
It was during her career with Walmart that Johnson received the Women of Color Award. As a senior director in the Office of the CIO, Johnson led a billion-dollar portfolio of global IT hardware, software, and professional services, as well as digital enterprise strategies involving over 10,000 contractors.
Other roles she held at Walmart include senior director for information technology quality engineering. She also led the African American Women in Tech supervisory mentoring circle, a Spark mentoring circle, the African American Women Achieving Real Excellence mentoring circle, and served as supervisory manager of the Diversity and Inclusion workstream.
Prior, Johnson worked for Cisco and was president and COO of a client service firm providing strategy, budget, staffing, and leadership training to clients in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Johnson graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor's degree in sociology. She also attended the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
