Symone Barkley is a proud Baltimore-born scientist and educator. She has studied algae, blue crabs, sand tigers, and sandbar sharks and has a range of experience in the marine science field.
During her undergraduate degree at Hampton University, Symone was supported by the Educational Partnership Program at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Symone was also a recipient of a NOAA fellowship when obtaining her master's degree at Delaware State University.
After graduate school, Symone was placed in NOAA's Office of Education during her Sea Grant Knauss Fellowship. Currently, she is a member of the North American Association for Environmental Education’s 30 Under 30 program.
She manages education programs at the National Aquarium, with a special emphasis on providing environmental literacy. She also supports students and teachers through "Every Full Moon" a show that she hosts with NOAA Ocean Today and serves as the chief learning officer for the Black In Marine Science organization. Recently, she launched "A Peace of Nature" STEAM kits for children and youth.
High-Tech Sunday's weekly program is produced by and for CCG’s hall of fame alumni, professionals in STEM fields, thought leaders, and aspiring students, to bring a concentrated discussion around technological advancements and achievements based on universal moral principles.
