Treva Brown, Ph.D., is a physical scientist at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL).
NRL is a scientific and engineering command dedicated to research that drives innovation for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps from the seafloor to space and in the information domain. NRL employs approximately 3,000 civilian scientists, engineers, and support personnel.
Dr. Brown has developed protocols for imaging biological samples and scanning electron microscopy. She has also produced protocols for biological characterization using advanced atomic force microscopy techniques.
Dr. Brown has also participated in numerous diversity efforts within NRL and dedicated time to volunteering with science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs outside of NRL.
She is a past recipient of the Winifred-Burks Houck Leadership Award from the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers ( NOBCChE). The award recognizes leadership, scientific achievements, and community service shown while in a career in STEM disciplines.
Brown was recognized as "Ms. Black Empowerment Louisiana" in 2019 and, in 2020, she was the recipient of a "Woman in STEM" award from the Inaugural Women Mean Business organization, which celebrates female leaders making a positive impact on New Orleans.
