Crystal Taylor is a highly respected information technology professional attached to the Department of the Navy's Naval Sea Systems Command's Southeast Regional Maintenance Center in Mayport, Florida.
The Southeast Regional Maintenance Center works to provide mission-ready ships for the United States Navy. This fall, Taylor won a Technology All-Star Award at the 2021 Women of Color STEM Conference.
She was recognized for excellence in a highly competitive position in the Navy Cyber Information Technology Exchange Program. According to the center, Taylor was one of only seven nominees from across the Department of the Navy in 2019.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Taylor volunteered to conduct virtual “train the trainer” events, as well as one-on-one virtual sessions with local schools. The Southeast Regional Maintenance Center's science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) outreach program includes 35 schools and supports more than 500 students every year.
Since establishing the annual Regional SeaPerch competition in 2014, Taylor has led volunteers from the center to support local SeaPerch teams. SeaPerch is a collaborative effort between the Office of Naval Research and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and gives middle and high school students the opportunity to learn about robotics and to solve problems by building and testing underwater remotely operated vehicles.
