In 2019, Dongfeng Qi, Ph.D., a director of biostatistics and data management at Boston Scientific Corp., won the Visionary Award at the Women of Color STEM Conference.
A visionary is someone who plans the future with imagination and wisdom. The award is presented to individuals whose work demonstrates the innovation that furthers research and development related to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.
Dr. Qi joined Boston Scientific in 2015 as part of the American Medical Systems (AMS) Men's Health and Prostate Health businesses acquisition.
During her time with AMS, she managed biostatistics and was responsible for clinical data information systems to ensure that milestones were met across AMS Women’s Health, Men’s Health, and Prostate Health business units.
Dr. Qi has a proven track record of effective interactions with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a federal agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
She has presented and defended multiple investigational device exemption (IDE) and premarket approval (PMA) study designs to the FDA. She has also designed more than 500 studies for prolapse repair using the propensity score methodology.
In Minnesota, Dr. Qi is an active member of the American Statistical Association and the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST).
She is also involved in formal mentoring at the Minnesota School of Public Health, and informal mentoring programs for students, which introduce biostatistics and clinical research.
Inspired by the achievements of Marie Curie while in school in China, Dongfeng Qi went on to earn a master's degree in chemistry. Later, she came to America to continue her education and earned a Ph.D. in chemistry and another master’s degree in biostatistics.
