Dr. Kaiann Fu, a systems engineer at Northrop Grumman's Information Systems sector, was awarded the Technical Innovation award at the 2015 Women of Color STEM Conference.
Known for her practical approach to systems engineering, Dr. Fu has been an integral part of various internal research and development projects and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance programs. Her expertise includes designing, developing, and verifying algorithms for communication systems, which is reflected in her three technical publications on digital communications.
Additionally, she is a member of the Northrop Grumman diversity and inclusion board. Dr. Fu holds a bachelor's, master's, and doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Hui-ping Wang, Ph.D., is a Technical Fellow at General Motors who inspires researchers and engineers to develop automotive manufacturing systems. She has over 66 inventions, 32 of which are already implemented in production, and 98 peer-reviewed scientific publications.
Hui-ping is also passionate about inspiring the next generation to pursue STEM fields, and has mentored over 20 university students. She is a true role model.
In recognition of her efforts, she was honored with the Technical Innovation Award, which recognizes STEM professionals who have made exceptional contributions and inspired others in their field.
During her acceptance speech at the 2022 Women of Color STEM Awards gala, Hui-ping shared her journey of growing up in a small town in China and pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Iowa in the United States. She emphasized the importance of working hard and taking advantage of every opportunity to achieve our dreams, regardless of our country of origin or skin color. Hui-ping finds her work at General Motors rewarding because she sees her innovations being used to create greener and safer vehicles.
