Dongfeng Qi, a biostatistics and data management director at Boston Scientific Corporation, was awarded the Visionary Award at the 2019 Women of Color STEM Conference. This prestigious award is given to individuals whose work displays innovative research and development in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
Qi is an active member of both the American Statistical Association and the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) in Minnesota. She also participates in formal mentoring programs at the Minnesota School of Public Health and informal mentoring programs for students, introducing them to biostatistics and clinical research.
Qi joined Boston Scientific in 2015 after the acquisition of the American Medical Systems (AMS) Men's Health and Prostate Health businesses. During her time with AMS, she managed biostatistics and clinical data information systems to ensure milestones were met across AMS Women’s Health, Men’s Health, and Prostate Health business units.
Qi has a proven track record of effective interactions with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services federal agency. She has presented and defended multiple investigational device exemption (IDE) and premarket approval (PMA) study designs to the FDA. Additionally, she has designed more than 500 studies for prolapse repair using the propensity score methodology.
Qi earned a master's degree in chemistry before coming to America to continue her education. She received a Ph.D. in chemistry and another master’s degree in biostatistics.
