Lockheed Martin's Geo Weather Program is led by Jagdeep Shergill, an accomplished aerospace engineer. Her team is responsible for creating advanced satellites that provide crucial weather and climate information to more than half of the world.
Jagdeep received her undergraduate degree in mechanical and aeronautical engineering from the University of California Davis. She gained her first experience in the space industry by interning at Lockheed Martin's Space Systems Company (now Space) during her studies.
Since joining the company in 2004 as a mechanical engineer, Jagdeep has held various roles, including GOES-R Program Management Senior Manager and GOES-R Chief Engineer and Engineering Senior Manager.
As the Program Management Director, Jagdeep oversees the cost, schedule, and technical performance of critical weather satellites and capabilities programs for NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
Her team successfully launched and tested the GOES-T satellite in 2022 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Jagdeep takes pride in working on a program that saves lives and protects property by providing real-time weather, oceans, and climate monitoring.
She has eight years of systems engineering experience, including requirements flow-down, subsystem integration, system-level integration, and testing.
Jagdeep has faced underrepresentation as a woman and person of color in her career. Despite this, she uses her success to inspire others.
She mentors 11 young Indian women and volunteers for the Denver GIRLS Inc. mentoring program, mainly for girls of color. Jagdeep advocates for diversity in hiring and has hired female engineers for leadership positions. She brings her perspective on diversity and inclusion to all hiring boards she serves on.
Jagdeep also focuses on advancing her leadership skills and has participated in various development programs. In her leisure time, she enjoys practicing yoga and meditation and cooking Indian food using her spice blends.
