WOC Technical Innovation Award winner Yufang Hou is a research scientist. She has made significant contributions to Natural Language Processing at IBM.
She led a team of researchers working on an artificial intelligence (AI) challenge of creating knowledge graphs from scientific papers and has published multiple articles at various events.
Yufang served as area chair of the European Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics (EACL) in 2021 and as a member of a standing review committee of the Association for Computational Linguistics (TACL) and Computational Linguistics (CL).
Additionally, she co-organized the 8th Workshop on Argumentation Mining, a research area within the natural-language processing field, and led the Human Behavior Change Project funded by the Wellcome Trust in the United Kingdom.
Yufang is also working on a project to provide solutions for scaling the production of human-readable and machine-consumable policy rules in the healthcare system.
Dr. Changchang Liu is a staff research scientist specializing in Edge AI, Federated Learning, and Privacy-preserving.
She has been involved in the Differential Privacy Synthetic Data Challenge committee for the last four years, hosted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
The challenge focuses on applying privacy methods to temporal map data, valuable for public safety applications such as response time optimization, disaster response, and demographic data analysis.
Dr. Liu has received numerous awards, including the 2022 IBM Outstanding Technical Achievement Award and the 2022 Professional Achievement in Industry by Women of Color STEM.
