In 2000, Margarita "Maggie" Dominguez was recognized as the Technologist of the Year at the WOC STEM Conference. The previous year, she graced the cover of Career Communications Group's HE & Information Technology magazine.
Dominguez became the first woman engineer hired by Tampa Electric in 1975.
Throughout her groundbreaking career at the utility company, she held numerous management positions, including director of environmental services for energy supply and director of marketing and sales for Energy Services.
Sales was one of her areas of expertise.
She was the Tampa Electric Bulk Power Department director, responsible for power sales to other utilities and municipal power systems.
Additionally, she gained extensive customer service experience while managing internal and external customer relations for Tampa Electric.
After being promoted to information technology and telecommunications services vice president, she oversaw Tampa Electric's facility services, real estate, and corporate purchasing functions.
"I am originally from Havana, Cuba," she shared on LinkedIn, where she currently highlights her role as a realtor. "My parents immigrated to Tampa in the '60s. I graduated with a degree in engineering from the University of South Florida in 1975," she added. "Following graduation, I had a long career with Tampa Electric Company and TECO Energy, now an EMERA company, where I rose to Vice President of Technical and Support Services."
