An estimated 8 million babies around the world are born with serious birth defects each year, taking a toll on families, communities, and nations.
On Saturday, March 3, March of Dimes will join 100 organizations around the world in observing the fourth annual World Birth Defects Day.>/p>
This annual event was created by March of Dimes and partners to raise awareness of the serious global problem of birth defects and to urge more research, prevention, and care for individuals and families.
"World Birth Defects Day is such an important event because it brings together people who care about better health for us all," says Stacey D. Stewart, president of March of Dimes. "We know that when communities work together, even the toughest problems can be solved."
March of Dimes advocates for policies that prioritize the health of moms and babies, and empowers women and families with the knowledge and tools they need to have healthier pregnancies.
