Darlene Wilson, managing principal of Relay Accounting Management and board chair for REV Birmingham, was one of four appointees named to the Birmingham Airport Authority Board of Directors by Birmingham Mayor Randall L. Woodfin on Friday.
“The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport is a vital part of the region’s economic competitiveness,” Mayor Woodfin said in a statement. “We spent an extensive amount of time considering the type of leadership we truly need for this responsibility. I am so very excited to see such incredibly accomplished professionals offer themselves for public service.”
Wilson has more than twenty years in the accounting industry and 12 of those years as a leading entrepreneur in Metro Birmingham. She received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Montevallo.
Wilson is currently the Board Chair of REV Birmingham, a member of Foundation Capital and is a facilitator for CO. STARTERS. She appears on entrepreneurial panels throughout the state and speaks to many professional organizations on topics including accounting, entrepreneurial trends and business sustainability.
Wilson was most recently chosen as a mentor for Bizwomen Mentoring Monday in 2018. She was recognized as BBJ’s Women to Watch 2017 and 2015 CEO Finalist of the year in the Small Business Category presented by Birmingham Business Journal. She completed Emerging Leaders through the U.S. Small Business Administration in 2017 after working seven months with some of the leading entrepreneurs in Alabama.
According to the statement issued by the Mayor's office, the appointees will be submitted by resolution to the Birmingham City Council on Tuesday’s agenda.
