L’Oréal USA recognized Anela Choy as an International Rising Talent during the 20th annual L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards in Paris earlier this year.
Choy was honored for her work at Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, on the impacts of plastic debris on ocean food webs and strategies to sustainably manage and conserve ocean ecosystems into the future.
The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) encompass the entire ocean, from the surface waters to the deep seafloor, and from the coastal zone to the open sea. The need to understand the ocean in all its complexity and variability drives MBARI's research and development efforts.
The L’Oréal-UNESCO International Rising Talents were chosen from the recent recipients of the For Women in Science fellowships awarded locally by L’Oréal subsidiaries worldwide, including the L’Oréal USA For Women in Science fellowship program.
“I’m humbled to have been selected as an International Rising Talent,” said Choy. “I’m grateful that L’Oreal is committed to increasing the visibility and success of women in all fields of science.”
In 2016, Choy was selected as one of five recipients of the L’Oreal Women in Science Fellowship. The award provides $60,000 to outstanding female scientists to advance their postdoctoral research.
