Candi Castleberry Singleton, a 2004 winner of the Women of Color Community Service Award, is now Vice President of Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Amazon.
In this role, Singleton will help Amazon meet some of its diversity goals like doubling the number of Black leaders at the company, and increasing women in senior tech roles by 30 percent.
Singleton had served as vice president at Twitter since 2017, after a decades-long career at Motorola and Xerox Corporation.
As director of global inclusion at Sun Microsystems, she created a systems model that helps companies transition from compliance-driven processes led by human resources (HR) to integrated activities that shift the responsibility for achieving an inclusive culture to every employee.
In 2008, she launched the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center for Engagement and Inclusion. Her efforts include the Dignity & Respect Campaign, which was founded on 30 Tips that remind us to be mindful of how we treat others; and the Cultural Competency Initiative, a practical approach for helping employees learn to interact with others in a culturally appropriate manner.
Singleton earned an Executive MBA from Pepperdine Graziadio in 2006 and was named a Distinguished Alum in 2019.
Her dedication to the Pittsburgh community led her to serve on the boards of the University of Pittsburgh's Institute of Politics, Pittsburgh Promise, Women and Girls Foundation, Urban League, and to volunteer on projects with Athena, Go Red for Women, Women's Shelter. She is a member of the United Way Women Leadership Council and Tocqueville Society, as well as the American Heart Association's Circle of Red.
