Women of Color in STEM Fintech Leadership Award winners stand out in developing financial technology products and devices while serving as role models.
Widely respected as an exceptional leader, Josnelly Aponte (standing right) serves as revenue requirements and analysis director at Consumers Energy. She represents the company as a rates expert before the Michigan Public Service Commission in electric and gas regulatory proceedings.
She's also committed to the betterment of her community. Her voluntary work centers around economic empowerment education and social services. She refuses to accept the status quo and insists on leaving a space better than she found it.
"Born and raised in a third-world country, I learned at a very young age that hard work, determination, and a growth mindset were a key combination to success," Josnelly said in her acceptance speech. "I watched my parents overcome poverty by applying these principles and I vowed not to settle for traditional gender roles that were ingrained in my culture. It has not always been easy but having a can-do attitude and a great support network provided me with opportunities that allow me to make a difference and have inspired me to pay it forward.
On LinkedIn, Andra Homer, a chief financial officer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and also a 2022 Women of Color In STEM Award winner, congratulated her fellow award winner.
"Congrats Josnelly!," Andra wrote. "Your journey is inspiring! I enjoyed our time making history at the WOC Stem Conference. Let’s stay fired up and ready to go!"
Josnelly was equally inspired by Andra's remarks at the Women of Color STEM gala. "Congratulations on winning the Career Achievement in Government Award! Very well deserved," she replied.
