Tina Terrel, associate deputy chief for the National Forest Systems, won the Community Service in Government Award at the 2019 Women of Color STEM Conference.
Ms.Terrell (standing left in a red jacket) has worked for the USDA Forest Service for 35 years and is currently responsible for oversight and direction for natural resource programs covering 193 million acres of national forest and grasslands located in 43 states and Puerto Rico.
Previously, she served as the acting associate deputy chief of business operations, where she was responsible for providing leadership, guidance, oversight, and supervision to staff in the business operations deputy chief area.
She also served as the national director of the Job Corps Civilian Conservation Centers, which encompassed supervision of 1,200 employees and a budget of approximately $140 million.
When she became Job Corps national director for the program, she focused on creating natural resource training programs for Job Corps students to reconnect young people to nature. In four years, she expanded opportunities for Job Corps students to learn, train, and obtain careers in natural resources. She has dedicated her career to community programs and youth outreach. She is passionate about educating young people and has inspired many to pursue careers in natural resources.
