In 2014, Jedidah Isler became the first African American woman to receive her Ph.D. in Astrophysics from Yale University.
Her award-winning research has been supported by fellowships from the National Science Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
As an assistant professor of astrophysics at Dartmouth College, her research is focused on black holes. She explores the physics of blazars – supermassive black holes at the centers of galaxies that create particle jets moving at nearly the speed of light.
Dr. Isler is an alumna of Norfolk State University’s Dozoretz National Institute for Mathematics and Applied Sciences (DNIMAS).
According to Norfolk State, more than 495 students have graduated from the DNIMAS Institute since 1999. More than 65 percent of graduates have earned advanced degrees. Dr. Isler has pride of place as a DNIMAS Graduate - Physics Major Class of 2003.
