The Clean Energy Education and Empowerment (C3E) Initiative, which is made up of the U.S. Department of Energy, MIT Energy Initiative, Stanford University’s Precourt Institute for Energy, and the Texas A&M Energy Institute, have dedicated a webpage to Denise Gray's U.S. C3E Lifetime Achievement Honor.
According to U.S. C3E, lifetime achievement honorees have dedicated their careers to advancing clean energy and are among the most respected people in the clean energy field. They have also mentored and encouraged the growth of others along the way.
Gray's outstanding efforts in promoting opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) played a major role in her selection as the 2017 Women of Color Technologist of the Year.
Currently, Gray is president of LG Energy Solution Michigan Inc. Tech Center. Prior, she served as president and chief executive officer of LG Chem Power, Inc. (2015-2018). The company is focused on bringing lithium-ion polymer battery technology to North America for applications in the automotive and commercial markets.
From 2013 until 2015 she was vice president of powertrain electrification at AVL List GMBH in Austria, and, North America. She also spent 30 years at General Motors (GM), where she was recognized as “the battery czar” and a driving force behind GM's Chevrolet Volt vehicle.
Since 2019, she has served as a director of DRiV Incorporated, a start-up company built from the combined strengths of Tenneco, Federal-Mogul, and Öhlins. For DRiV, she brings valuable insight into the future direction of the automotive industry.
In addition to DRiV, Gray holds board of director positions at the Original Equipment Supplier Association (OESA), the Board on Energy and Environmental Systems in Washington DC, and CN, a transportation leader.
Gray holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Kettering University and a master’s degree in engineering management technology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
