At the 21st annual Women of Color STEM Conference, computer scientist Amy Nguyen received the Outstanding Technical Contribution Award for her remarkable contributions to the U.S. government.
In her acceptance speech, Amy expressed gratitude for the assistance her family received when they first arrived in the country, which allowed her to pursue an education.
She emphasized that her current position in the government is a way for her to give back and support the men and women in uniform who make sacrifices to protect the country.
In the photo, Amy is pictured with retired Lt. Gen. Nadja Y. West, who was the surgeon general of the U.S. Army at the time, and Patrick Murray, the former undersecretary of the Army.
Amy currently works as a computer scientist in the Software Engineering Center of the Intelligence Electronic Warfare and Sensors Directorate's Army Reprogramming Analysis Team Program Office.
"When my family and I first came to this country, we didn't have anything, but the government provided us assistance that allowed me to have an education," Amy said in her acceptance speech. "I'm where I am because the U.S. has given me an opportunity for a better life. This is the reason why I serve in the government. I do it because I want to give back and I want to contribute to the men and women in uniform who make profound sacrifices in order to protect us."
