Some say leaders are born, not made.
Others say everyone is born a leader, but education and training help individuals achieve leadership excellence.
Inderpal Deol is director and chief engineer at DTE Energy.

That's why she has been nominated for a Special Recognition Award at the 2020 Women of Color STEM Conference.
Deol joined the Detroit-based diversified energy company in 2006 as an operating system strategy expert.
Prior, she worked in the automotive and steel industries.
Since 2006, Deol has served as fossil generation continuous improvement manager and chief of staff.
She is also fuel supply, production and plant manager for The Monroe Power Plant, owned by the DTE Energy Electric Company, a subsidiary of DTE Energy.
As the director of engineering and chief engineer, she is responsible for central engineering supporting fossil generation fleet, and Warren Service Center laboratory and testing services.
She is also responsible for supporting strategy development in time of changing environmental regulation and leading continuous improvement initiatives.
According to Owler, DTE Energy's headquarters is in Detroit, Michigan. DTE Energy has 10,600 employees.
The 2020 Women of Color STEM Conference is scheduled for October 8-10. Now a hybrid event, WOC 2020 will include live, in-person programming at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center and the TCF Center in Detroit, MI.
