As a supply chain manager, Karriema Calhoun inspires a dynamic team of Boeing procurement agents. Her impact, however, isn't only felt inside the workplace.
Karriema dedicates much of her time to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) outreach, community service, and bringing STEM to rural and underserved communities.
She sits on several non-profit boards and distributes food monthly. She also shares her passion for STEM with young people during Boeing DreamLearner events while mentoring high school students as their STEM captain. She is a true advocate and community leader.
"Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. said everybody can be great because anybody can serve," Karriema said in her acceptance speech. "I grew up in Calhoun Falls, South Carolina, a small, one-stoplight little town. It's where I first learned to serve others. I've met many amazing women who inspired me to do more for my community. My STEM career has opened doors for me, and this gratitude motivates me to volunteer with youth to help shape their futures. Others helped me to get here and this is why I pay it forward."
Karriema's outstanding record of converting data into decisions, communicating with stakeholders, and mentoring fellow professionals makes her a standout in her field.
After graduating high school at 16 and college at 20, she completed one of two master’s degrees while recovering from brain surgery.
At a local elementary school, Karriema’s STEM outreach with “Boys With A Purpose” led to the launching of its sister program, “Girls With Dreams.” A YMCA board member, she also volunteers to support YWCA’s annual MLK program.
She also works with local organizations to address food insecurities and remains active with Twenty Pearls Foundation and her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha. She’s chair of the Boeing Black Employee Association South Carolina and participates in Boeing DreamLearners events.
When COVID hit, Karriema played a key role in planning a drive-thru vaccine clinic, partnering with the Medical University of South Carolina, SC Manufacturers Alliance, and Boeing Global Engagement.
