She is the Chairperson of the BEYA Alumni Group, having also been the recipient of multiple Black Engineer of the Year category awards for STEM outreach and public service.
In conversation with the High-Tech Sunday podcast hosts, she will share powerful insights and perspectives on the Digital Divide.
Dr. Boyd is an engineer and a lifelong science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) advocate. She is also an ordained itinerant elder in the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church and serves on the ministerial staff of Ebenezer AME Church in Maryland.
A native of Montgomery, Alabama, Rev. Dr. Boyd received a full scholarship to attend Alabama State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics with a double minor in physics and music. She received a full fellowship to pursue graduate studies at Yale University, where she was the first Black female to earn a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. She earned her Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Howard University.
Boyd’s professional career of more than three decades at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory was highlighted by exemplary leadership. Early in her career, she was an analyst in the Strategic Systems Department, where she was a part of teams that conducted independent analyses and operational performance evaluation of strategic weapons systems on Polaris, Poseidon, and trident submarines.
