Dongfeng Qi, a director of biostatistics and data management at Boston Scientific Corporation, was honored with the Visionary Award at the 2019 Women of Color STEM Conference.
This award recognizes individuals whose work demonstrates innovation that advances research and development in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.
In Minnesota, she is an active member of the American Statistical Association and the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST).
Qi is also involved in formal mentoring at the Minnesota School of Public Health and informal mentoring programs for students, focusing on biostatistics and clinical research.
Qi joined Boston Scientific in 2015 as part of the acquisition of the American Medical Systems (AMS) Men's Health and Prostate Health businesses.
During her time with AMS, she managed biostatistics and was responsible for biostatistics and clinical data information systems to ensure milestones were met across AMS Women's Health, Men's Health, and Prostate Health business units.
Qi has a proven track record of effective interactions with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services federal agency.
She has presented and defended multiple investigational device exemption (IDE) and premarket approval (PMA) study designs to the FDA.
She has also designed more than 500 studies for prolapse repair using the propensity score methodology.
After earning a master's degree in chemistry, she came to America to continue her education and received a Ph.D. in chemistry and another master's degree in biostatistics.
