It's the end of May and Women of Color magazine online has celebrated Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Month by bringing you success stories of Women of Color STEM Award winners and how they honor diversity and their AAPI heritage. Take a listen to some of the winners in their own words.

Alpana Bajpayee is a senior engineer with DTE Energy in Michigan. She has been recognized for outstanding leadership and contributions in the field of engineering.

Alpana also volunteers in FIRST Robotics, Mind Trekker, Michigan Women Forward Campus “Moxie” and Empowering girls STEM events. As a lead engineer, her efforts are focused on flow-accelerated corrosion (FAC) in piping, which is a problem in power plants.

She is part of a team that maintains safe and reliable piping systems within the fossil generation fleet at DTE Energy. Alpana also assists in the design review and implementation of code-acceptable piping systems as the piping subject matter expert.

Alpana is a contributing member of the corporate high energy piping (HEP) team, managing FAC and HEP inspections during outages. She is also the fossil generation piping and hangers subject matter expert and owner of Power Plant Orders, where she performs yearly reviews of documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
