More than 90% of women in tech surveyed say they are satisfied with their jobs but they often face a different set of challenges than their male counterparts. According to Skillsoft's 2021 Women in Tech Report, the top challenges that women face while pursuing careers in tech include:
Lack of equity in pay (38%)
Lack of work-life balance (36%)
Lack of equity in opportunities (33%)
Lack of professional development/training opportunities (32%)
Women also said organizations can help by providing:
Growth opportunities (55%)
Coaching/mentoring/career counseling (43%)
Equitable work culture (41%)
Women want more training opportunities. More than 57% said their current employer doesn't offer any. The leading areas of interest are:
Business Analysis
Cybersecurity
Analytics, AI and Machine Learning
Project Management
Cloud Computing
Leadership and Management
At least 86% deemed training as very or extremely important to earn more responsibility (52%), earn a raise (34%), or earn a promotion (32%). Despite these benefits, almost one in four women in tech don't hold any certifications.
The 2021 Women in Tech Report presents the findings of an in-depth survey of 1,100 women working in the United States, Canada, France, and the United Kingdom.
