Wageesha Senaratne is a research associate at Corning Incorporated. Her research interests include surface chemistry, inorganic-organic materials/composites, nanoparticle coatings, optical coatings, barrier coatings, and self-assembly materials.
Corning's products include damage-resistant cover glass found in billions of mobile devices, precision glass for advanced displays, optical fiber, wireless technologies, and networks; products to accelerate drug discovery and delivery, and clean-air technologies for cars and trucks.
In recognition of her ground-breaking research at the world's leading innovator in materials science, Wageesha was nominated for the Outstanding Technical Contribution in Industry Award at the 2015 Women of Color STEM Conference.
Wageesha joined Corning as a postdoctoral researcher in 2005, after earning a Ph.D. in materials science at Cornell University.
Prior, she earned a master's degree in chemistry at Cornell in 2002, after receiving her undergraduate degree also in chemistry at the University of Colombo in 1984.
The University of Colombo is a public research university in Sri Lanka and the oldest institution of modern higher education in the island country in South Asia.
