The 2019 College-Level Promotion of Education Award at the Women of Color STEM Conference went to an associate professor in the School of Engineering & Technology at Miami Dade College, the largest college in the Florida College System and the second-largest college or university in the United States.
Elodie Billionniere, Ph.D. has been instrumental in the creation and revision of educational pathways in data analytics and enterprise cloud computing. Both programs are unique to the state of Florida and provide a means for underrepresented populations to enter high-demand and high-wage positions in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
Dr. Billionniere's work has had a profound impact on promoting diversity on campus through a monthly STEMinar Series and collaboration with other STEM faculty to increase efficacy in math and science.
She joined Miami Dade College six years ago and has since become a college-wide leader in STEM through mentoring and support opportunities that she creates for students across the college.
Dr. Billionniere made critical contributions to the development and implementation of a $1 million grant from the National Science Foundation to fund education programs that will assist in closing the existing skills gap in STEM fields.
Her effectiveness in writing grant proposals has helped the college create industry partnerships with Amazon Web Services and has opened doors to provide further opportunities for underserved student populations.
