Barrow Shurn is currently associate director for customer technical services on the GP7000 engine program at Pratt & Whitney, a division of Raytheon Technologies.
The GP7000 engine powers the A380 – the world’s largest passenger airline. Barrow leads a team of hardware engineers who provide support for flight operations and maintenance activities.
She has been with Pratt & Whitney for 20 years and has held several positions of increasing responsibility after starting her career in the engineering development program, a two-year rotational assignment.
Since then, Barrow has held positions of increasing responsibility, including integrated product team (IPT) lead, industrial integration manager, deputy production chief, aftermarket manager, and her current role.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Barrow has also been active in encouraging young women and students of color to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
She is a lifetime member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and has served on regional and national boards within the organization.
She is also an INROADS alumna, and has served on the Pratt & Whitney INROADS Alumni board for years, volunteering and investing her time to support and mentor summer interns.
Barrow has also served on the Pratt & Whitney Women’s Council as the Global Chair, another area for outreach to young women to encourage and expose them to careers in STEM.
Barrow earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Tufts University and an M.B.A. from Carnegie Mellon University. She also earned her Project Management Professional Certification.
