Eighteen employees from three divisions at Huntington Ingalls Industries were recognized for their achievements in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) during the 25th annual Women of Color STEM Conference.
Among the women who received Technology All-Star awards was April Bilbo, a welding general foreman.
April began her career as a hull welding apprentice and completed her apprenticeship earning a journeyman status.
During this time she was promoted to lead her work crew.
In 2011, April served as a foreman for operations. She was selected as a full-time foreman in 2017.
Two years later she rose to weld general foreman.
April has worked all classes of ships at Ingalls, including amphibious assault ships, transport docks, and dock landing ships.
