On Saturday, March 13, Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) Stars and Stripes is hosting a career day online for young people. The K-12 career day will feature leading professionals in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Special guest speakers for the virtual event are Mr. Steve Poizner and Dr. D. Wilson Howard.
Mr. Poizner is the founder and chief executive officer of GPS startup OneNav Inc. Following SnapTrack’s sale for $1 billion to Qualcomm, Poizner served a year as a White House Fellow in the National Security Council. Starting one week before the 9/11 attacks, Poizner held the position of director of critical infrastructure protection and was involved in developing homeland security programs relating to cybersecurity and emergency response communication protocols.
Dr. Wilson-Howard is an associate professor at Bethune-Cookman University in the Department of Natural Sciences. She teaches chemistry, biology seminar, inorganic, and cancer biology. She also has over 15 years of mentoring experience with high school, undergraduate, and graduate students in the university setting as well as in the community. Dr. Wilson-Howard is a Minority Education Program Scholar at the University of Florida through the OneFlorida Clinical Research Consortium.
