The National Science Foundation (NSF) has announced a virtual presentation by Dr. Sethuraman Panchanathan, director of the NSF, on the future of competitiveness and the vital role that historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) play in building America's Science & Engineering (S&E) enterprise.
Dr. Panchanathan has a distinguished career in science, technology, engineering, and education. Prior to becoming director of the National Science Foundation (NSF), Panchanathan served six years on the National Science Board, which establishes the policies of the National Science Foundation. He has also served as executive vice president of the Arizona State University Knowledge Enterprise, where he founded the Center for Cognitive Ubiquitous Computing.
Dr. Panchanathan is a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and the Association for Computing Machinery. His scientific contributions have advanced the areas of human-centered multimedia computing, haptic user interfaces, person-centered ubiquitous computing technologies for empowering individuals with a range of abilities.
The 'HBCU Lunch Time Learning Webinar with the NSF Director's presentation is titled “The Future of Competitiveness: The vital role that our nation’s HBCUs play in building a robust S&E enterprise” and is scheduled for Wednesday, April 21.
The director's talk will be followed by a discussion with Dr. Victor McCrary, vice president for research and graduate programs and professor of chemistry at the University of the District of Columbia. He is also vice-chair of the National Science Board.
