Who says eighth graders are not yet in a position to pick a specific career path? For four friends from Atlantic City High School, their dream to get into high-skill jobs has come true.
This spring, Adonnis Brock-Murray (photo above) earned a bachelor's degree in biology from the College of Saint Elizabeth in New Jersey. Tyonna Holloway graduated from Montclair State University with a degree in child advocacy and policy, and Te'ajea Snow graduated from Lincoln University with a psychology degree. Destiny White, who also attended Lincoln University, earned a bachelor's degree in business.
Destiny plans to work for Atlantic City, while Te'ajea is currently working at the Arc of Atlantic County and planning to attend graduate school in 2021. Tyonna is also looking into graduate school for the fall.
In the summer of 2019, Adonnis got firsthand experience in obstetrics through the Atlantis Fellowship. According to the College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), the program, which is designed to enable pre-medicine students to travel abroad and shadow doctors, took Adonnis to Lithuania, a northeastern European country.
"This fellowship allowed me to see everything relating to medical care in a hospital setting entirely unfiltered," she told CSE. "I've wanted to be a doctor since I was 9 years old and delivering babies is such a beautiful experience," she said.
