Shell Eco-marathon, one of the world’s longest-running energy-efficiency competitions, inspires young female students underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to innovate for cleaner energy in the future.
Actress Letitia Wright recently met Shell Eco-marathon heroes in London. The young women shared the exciting possibilities that careers in STEM can offer.
Wright revealed in an exclusive series of interviews how her most recent role as a female scientist in the superhero franchise of the year sparked her desire to discover some real heroes of STEM.
“You have to see something to understand that you can do it – that’s why I feel representation is so important,” Letitia says. “I really want to see what it takes to be involved in the STEM movement – I call it a movement, because I feel it’s very powerful.”
Wright met with Dr. Anne-Marie Imafidon, a science educator, math prodigy, and co-founder of STEMettes, a not-for-profit organisation to support young girls in STEM.
“To me, STEM is all about creativity and altruism,” Anne-Marie tells Letitia. “So, it’s really important to have different types of stories, different types of people, different journeys. If you can see it, you can be it.”
