A Las Vegas program allows kids to take free summer classes while playing their favorite video games.
Online gaming has become a lucrative career for some people who collect viewers and income by streaming their gameplay. This program could be the first step toward a career in the gaming industry. The best part of this program is that parents don’t have to pay anything for their kids to attend.
“There are huge companies that are looking for the next workforce, whether it’s Microsoft or Boeing. They are already looking for kids that are proficient in tech aspects,” said Evan Savar of Stride Esports.
If you have an elementary to high school student in your household, you’ve likely heard of the games Fortnite, Minecraft, and Rocket League. These are some of the most popular games for kids and Stride Esports is now using those games to create lesson plans.
The company is using these games to get kids excited about a career in technology. Kids will be able to learn how to create video games and code directly from those currently working in the tech industry.
“It’s not only popular right now, but as we start looking into the future of what esports are becoming, kids are already getting scholarships for esports,” said Savar.
Students from age 8 to 18 are invited to participate in the program. Stride is also teaming up with the local Boys & Girls Clubs to offer in-person access to the free web-based Esports Summer Camp. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas will be one of seven across the U.S. that will serve as an in-person hub for kids to log into this summer camp.
