Amicitia (Cita) Maloon-Gibson retired as a lieutenant colonel in the Army Corps of Engineers in 2005. She was the first woman in the U.S. military to receive the Women of Color STEM Leadership & Service Award.
Maloon-Gibson was recognized for her passion for working with science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs and supporting disabled veterans.
A decorated veteran with 29 years of distinguished service, she served during the Gulf War and was recalled for Operation Iraqi Enduring Freedom. Her assignments included engineer commander, and disaster relief missions manager - South Atlantic Division.
After retiring from the military, she joined the federal senior executive service (SES) and served in various leadership positions in agencies throughout the Department of Defense. She was responsible for millions of dollars in facilities and equipment, and personnel.
In addition to the WOC STEM Award, she received the de Fleury Medal, in recognition of her contributions to Army Engineering. She also received the Secretary of Defense Badge and National Defense Medal. More recent awards include Veteran of the Year and the Florida Veterans Governor Award.
