April is National Financial Literacy Month, which is celebrated annually to raise awareness of the importance of financial literacy and maintaining smart money management habits.
To observe the importance of this month, Women of Color magazine is featuring Leah N. Abrams, the owner and operator of L. Abrams & Company, LLC, a minority-owned business based in Maryland.
She founded the company in 2014 and it has since acquired several clients from various service areas and industries, such as construction, IT, restaurants, and communications/broadcasting.
Her vision is to provide financial stability and growth to those in need. She offers services such as budget practices, internal control structures, and audits for compliance and accounting.
Before starting L. Abrams & Co., Leah spent seven years in public accounting with two firms - Anderson LLP and Abrams, Foster, Nole & Williams PA.
She started as a staff auditor and worked her way up to become a manager before transitioning to the private sector.
She worked for Ajilon Consulting for two years as a Sarbanes Oxley compliance analyst in private industry, and then as the assistant comptroller for three years at Sojourner-Douglass College.
During her time in private industry, Leah became a Certified Public Accountant and recently received her life and health insurance license. She graduated from Hampton University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
Leah, I am so very honored and blessed to know and to be related to you. You have always shown humility and appreciation to all you encounter. Your achievements this point are nothing compared to the greatness of your future. Keep on loving life and people as you do best. Wisdom and Commitment together is the key.
I am so proud of my niece for all of her accomplishments. Auntie loves you!!
