Do a search for the 2022 theme for International Women's Day (IWD) on March 8 and you will come up with a garden variety. International Women's Day dot com, the Women's Day (@Womensday) website, launched this year's campaign with the hashtag, #BreaktheBias. "Together, we can all break the bias on International Women's Day (IWD) and beyond," the press release said.
Meanwhile, UN Women announced their own theme in December 2021. UN Women is the United Nations entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women.
The UN Women theme for IWD 2022 is “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow,” which recognizes the leadership of women and girls in climate change adaptation, mitigation, and response, to build a more sustainable future.
According to the UN, the #IWD2022 theme is aligned with the theme for the upcoming Commission on the Status of Women: “Achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programs.”
The United Nations Observance of International Women’s Day will be marked by a virtual event on Tuesday, 8 March. The Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the General Assembly, the Chair of the Commission on the Status of Women, the Executive Director of UN Women as well as gender equality and climate change activists and celebrities are expected to participate. The event will be followed by a panel discussion and musical performances.
