Tyrone Taborn to Step Down as CCG Publisher in 2028.
Focus Shifts to Closing the Digital Divide in AI and the Metaverse.
Will Assume Role as Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Career Communications Group (CCG), a leading media organization known for championing diversity and inclusion in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields, has announced that its visionary leader, Tyrone Taborn, will step down from his role as Publisher in 2028.
Taborn’s departure as Publisher marks the beginning of a new chapter, as he transitions to focus on bridging the growing digital divide in artificial intelligence (AI) and the Metaverse.
Taborn, who founded CCG in 1985, has spent over four decades elevating underrepresented voices in STEM and technology through innovative programming and high-impact events like the Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) and the Women of Color STEM Conference.
Under his leadership, CCG has become a powerful platform for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, touching the lives of thousands of professionals and students in STEM careers across the country.
In his next role as Chairman of the Board of Directors, Taborn will focus on addressing one of the most pressing challenges of our time: ensuring that underserved communities, particularly Black and Hispanic youth, are not left behind as advancements in AI and the Metaverse transform industries and economies globally.
"The future is so critical right now," said Taborn. "We are at a pivotal moment where AI, automation, and the Metaverse will define the future of work, education, and society as a whole. I want the next stage of my journey to guarantee an equitable life for our youth. The digital divide isn’t just about access to technology—it’s about access to opportunity. My focus will be on ensuring that our youth, especially from underrepresented communities, are prepared for the opportunities ahead. They deserve the tools, resources, and education to thrive in this new era."
As an early advocate for the power of technology to transform lives, Taborn has long emphasized the importance of STEM education and workforce readiness for communities of color. His new focus on AI and the Metaverse is a natural extension of his life’s work—leveraging these transformative technologies to build a more inclusive future.
With AI projected to contribute over $15 trillion to the global economy by 2030, ensuring equitable access to AI education and opportunities has never been more urgent.
Taborn’s departure from his role as Publisher is part of a broader succession plan for Career Communications Group, which will soon begin a search for the next Publisher to lead the company into its next phase of growth.
"CCG is positioned for a strong future," Taborn added. "We have built a legacy of excellence in amplifying diversity in STEM, and I am confident that the new leadership will continue to drive this mission forward. The work of CCG is far from over, and I will continue to support the organization as Chairman of the Board."
As Publisher of CCG, Taborn not only led the creation of landmark events like BEYA but also launched award-winning publications, including US Black Engineer & Information Technology magazine and Hispanic Engineer & Information Technology magazine, that have inspired generations of diverse STEM talent.
His work in these fields has earned him numerous accolades, including recognition as one of the "Top 50 Influential Minorities in Technology" and several lifetime achievement awards.
In his new role, Taborn plans to focus on three key areas:
Closing the Digital Divide in AI and the Metaverse: Taborn will lead efforts to ensure that underserved communities have access to education, resources, and training to participate in the growing AI economy and the expanding Metaverse.
Advocating for Policy and Investment: Taborn will work with policymakers, educational institutions, and corporations to develop policies and initiatives that support equitable access to technology and high-growth industries.
Empowering the Next Generation: Through partnerships with schools, universities, and community organizations, Taborn will focus on developing programs that prepare students for AI, data science, and other cutting-edge fields that will shape the future of work.
Looking Forward: The Legacy of Tyrone Taborn
Taborn’s decision to step down as Publisher is part of a carefully planned leadership transition that ensures CCG’s continued impact on the world of STEM and diversity.
During his tenure, he oversaw the company’s expansion into new areas, including digital platforms like STEM City USA, a revolutionary Metaverse platform that brings together virtual reality, networking, and educational opportunities.
The legacy of Tyrone Taborn is one that has shaped not only the careers of countless STEM professionals but also the broader discourse on diversity, inclusion, and representation in technology. His work continues to inspire leaders across industries, and his upcoming focus on AI and the Metaverse promises to be another chapter of significant impact.
