Margarita "Maggie" Dominguez was honored as the Women of Color Technologist of the Year in 2000.
A year earlier, she had been featured on the cover of Career Communications Group's Hispanic Engineer & Information Technology magazine.
In her LinkedIn profile, she shared that she is originally from Havana, Cuba, and that her parents immigrated to Tampa in the '60s.
She graduated with a degree in engineering from the University of South Florida in 1975.
After graduating, she pursued a long career with Tampa Electric Company and TECO Energy, now an EMERA company, eventually rising to the role of vice president of technical and support services.
Dominguez was the first woman engineer hired by Tampa Electric in 1975, and she overcame numerous barriers to pave the way for future generations.
Throughout her career at the utility company, she held various management positions, including director of environmental services for energy supply and director of marketing and sales for energy services.
Sales was one of her areas of expertise, and she served as director of the Tampa Electric Bulk Power Department, significantly contributing to the company's success.
Additionally, she had extensive experience in customer services, demonstrating her dedication to taking care of Tampa Electric's internal and external customers.
Dominguez's career at Tampa Electric also saw her rise to the position of vice president of information technology and telecommunications services, where she was responsible for the company's facility services, real estate, and corporate purchasing functions.
