The 27th annual Women of Color STEM Conference convened at Huntington Place, Detroit, October 6-8, under the theme The Struggle. The Progress. The Future.
During the gala, the red-carpet event, which brought together members of the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) community and the organizations that support them, award winners thanked family, friends, and colleagues, and recounted lessons learned.
Donna Merriman received the Career Achievement in Government Award, which recognizes an employee with over 15 years in the workforce whose experience enhances her job, division, and organization.
Donna has spent thirty years supporting U.S. national security providing crucial technical support on major defense systems in her role at the Defense Contracting Management Agency.
She has shared command responsibility for total contract management oversight of approximately $75 billion in acquisition operations. In addition, she develops talent within her organization and is a member of the network of 28 Federal Executive Boards, which are a forum for communication and collaboration among federal agencies outside of Washington, DC.
"I am honored and humbled to accept this Career Achievement in Government Award, and to be selected from the cohort of talent I'm sure we're nominated in," she said in her acceptance speech. "I'm so grateful to have my 30 years of work recognized this way. My deep gratitude to my family, friends, mentors, and leaders for your support. I wish you all continued success and great adventures ahead."
