Maria Diaz-Masterson, the head of the Sensors and Arrays Division of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport's Sensors and Sonar Systems Department, has been recognized with the Women of Color Magazine's Technology All-Star Award.
Technology All-Stars are accomplished women of color who have served for over 15 years in mid-level to advanced stages of their careers
The award honors women who have shown excellence in their community and workplace. Diaz-Masterson and other winners will be recognized during the Women of Color STEM Conference.
Previously, Diaz-Masterson was the head of the Submarine and Surveillance Systems Division in the Naval Undersea Warfare Center's Sensors and Sonar Department.
Diaz-Masterson led over 100 people in information assurance and cybersecurity for our tactical and laboratory-based analysis systems.
She also addressed virtual machine technology to reduce the footprint and cost of our tactical systems while offering the potential for excellent reliability. She has succeeded as a team leader, line manager, engineer, and mentor.
Diaz-Masterson is a mentor and leader in the Educational Partnership Agreement between Division Newport and the University of Puerto Rico – Mayaguez.
She actively seeks opportunities for engineers to shadow test directors while underway on submarines, as she strongly believes in workforce development.
The technical expertise and enthusiasm she brings to her job greatly benefit the department, Division Newport, and the U.S. Navy.
