In spring of 2002, Women of Color magazine held a special event called the Women of Color in Health, Science and Technology Awards.
The symposium was held to recognize, honor, and inspire women who help make America's health care system work. The goal was also to promote better health care for all Americans by recognizing the talents and contributions of women to America's healthcare system. The Health Care Executive of the Year was Annie R. Neasman.
Then, she was deputy secretary of the Florida Department of Health and chief public health nurse for the State of Florida. She had already been inducted into the Florida A&M University Hall of Fame.
Neasman began her career as a nurse and instructor at Jackon Memorial Hospital after graduating with a bachelor's degree in nursing. She went on to earn a master's degree in adult education and went on to serve as an executive in community health organizations in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties and overseen a range of programs for minority health women's health.
Currently, she is President and CEO of the Jessie Trice Community Health Center, Inc, where she directs and manages 15 comprehensive community sites which include a women’s residential center as well as school-based health facilities. Her multicultural, multilingual staff of more than 350 individuals, serves a diverse clientele of approximately 41,000 individuals who make more than 126,000 visits each year. With 55 sites, JTCHC strives to provide comprehensive primary healthcare services, increase access and improve the quality of life for communities of Miami-Dade County.
