Ashley Johnson-Long is a successful engineering professional at Corning Incorporated and a recipient of the 2023 Professional Achievement in Industry Award.

She has recently been appointed as the chief of staff to the president and COO of Corning. Prior to her current role, Johnson-Long served as a plant engineering manager at an integrated die manufacturing plant of the Corning environmental technologies division.

She co-led the technical die and business team that ensured technology synchronization of regional and contract manufacturing of die.

Apart from her regular responsibilities, Johnson-Long is also committed to serving the community and empowering young women in their careers.

She is an active member of the leadership team for the Corning Black Growth Council and participates in various programs for young women.

Johnson-Long started her tenure at Corning, Inc. in 2012 as a process controls engineer in the corporate engineering division, providing engineering support to the entire company.

Her advanced analytics team helped Corning Environmental Technologies (CET) win the 2017 Manufacturing Engineering Excellence Choice Award from the Engineering Council, and delivered approximately $10 million in savings for the division.

She led the team in implementing solutions such as best-in-class dies for light-duty substrates, die-casting improvements, and a novel die extrusion design.

In addition to her work at Corning, Johnson-Long co-founded Corning Valley's first Toastmasters club, Speak-Up CNY, where she served as vice president of education for two years.

She also served on the leadership team for the Corning Black Growth Council, focusing on building members with a technical background and partnering with HR to recruit diverse talent.

Furthermore, she has served as a guest speaker for eighth-grade students from surrounding school districts, during a full-day career exploration.

Growing up, Ashley's grandfather, the late Dr. Leonard W. Johnson, instilled in her the importance of hard work and continuous improvement.

His words, "There is no royal road to knowledge. Always strive to better your best," have been her guiding principle in life.

Johnson-Long is dedicated to embracing technical and professional challenges with an unwavering commitment to growth in a field where diversity remains a challenge.

She considers this award as recognition for the importance of representation and is grateful to her mentors at Corning for continuously challenging and supporting her.
