Career Communications Group has appointed Desiree Watkins as the Special Assistant to CEO Tyrone Taborn. Her responsibilities include overseeing all Women of Color STEM Conference activities in Detroit, including conference, marketing, staffing, and community outreach. She will also engage with elected officials.
Ms. Watkins has had a successful career in human resources and accounting with renowned companies such as Accountants on Call and Kelly Services Inc, and as CEO of 20/20 Eye Specialists, she has tripled the company's bottom line.
Her fiscal and administrative experience makes her an asset to Career Communications Group, producer of Women of Color magazine and its annual Women of Color in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Conference.
Ms. Watkins also holds notable positions on various boards, including the Board of Trustees for DuSable Museum and the Board Member of United Way South-Southwest Suburban Region.
She is an Olympia Fields Trustee and a candidate for Village President of Olympia Fields. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Detroit-Mercy and is pursuing an MBA from Harvard University.
She is passionate about reducing healthcare disparities in the community and has over 20 years of leadership experience as a resident of the Southland area.
The 28th Annual Women of Color Conference, the only multi-cultural celebration held to honor the significant achievements of women in technology, is less than two months away.
