In November 2022, Purdue Forestry & Natural Resources sent out a tweet congratulating Dr. Shaneka Lawson for receiving the Presidential Safety Award from the Purdue Department of Radiological and Environmental Management.

This award is given to individuals or groups that have improved standards. The selection is based on criteria like showing excellence in safety program implementation, demonstrating improvement in safety performance, providing leadership in safety, and exhibiting consistent safety performance over time.

Lawson received the Cultural Diversity Award from the U.S. Forest Service in May 2022, which recognizes individuals or teams for their accomplishments in promoting inclusion, cultural transformation, and diversity.

The recipients are advocates for the benefits of cultural transformation to further the Forest Service's mission "to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the nation's forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations."

In October 2023, Dr. Lawson will be honored with the Community Service Award at the Women of Color STEM Conference.

This award recognizes individuals who have used technology in innovative ways to enhance access to jobs and educational opportunities and create awareness of technology's potential to improve access to valuable resources, services, and information.

A 2011 graduate of Purdue Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, Lawson is currently an adjunct professor at Forestry & Natural Resources (FNR).

In 2015, she took over the management of a research lab focused on genomics, physiology, and plant pathology. Lawson handles all lab-related concerns, while performing her role as a primary investigator in FNR and for the USDA.
