Diedra Hollins is currently the deputy chief information officer at the Battelle Energy Alliance in the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) Information Management department. She has made significant strides in the information technology (IT) field, breaking down barriers and serving as a role model for other women to follow in her footsteps.
As of 2022, only 13.5 percent of Deputy Chief Information Officers were women, and an even smaller 3.9 percent were Black CIOs (Chief Information Officers).
Hollins spearheads the "Workforce for the Future" initiative, which aims to drive technology requirements and solutions for telework, hoteling, and on-site work to fulfill INL's mission.
Hollins has demonstrated excellent leadership abilities in her previous roles, including serving as deputy CIO for the city of Baltimore and CIO for the Department of Transportation in Baltimore.
She has also worked for top management and technology firms such as Booz Allen Hamilton and Unisys.
Notable among her accomplishments is leading a technology effort that enabled the General Services Administration (GSA) to become mobile-enabled, making it the first agency to develop a mobile way to do its entire program safely and securely.
This helped GSA move from 0% cloud utilization to 74% in just five years, leading to a 20% increase in Employee Viewpoint Survey (EVS) scores, a 20% jump in customer satisfaction scores, and a 17% reduction in overall technology delivery costs, saving the agency more than one billion dollars.
As an adjunct faculty member at the University of Maryland University College, Hollins also lectures on information systems management and teaches ethics in IT.
She is a Six Sigma Green Belt, an executive sponsor for the INL Toastmasters Club, and a member of the Laboratory Operations Leadership Academy.
Alongside Linda Montgomery from the Idaho National Laboratory, she founded a group dedicated to supporting and motivating women in technology from diverse backgrounds.
Thanks to Hollins' leadership and direction, the group provides training, support, and camaraderie to help women thrive. She also mentors young people at the YMCA, encouraging them to pursue careers in STEM and educating them on cybersecurity and cyber safety.
