At the 21st annual Women of Color STEM Conference, computer scientist Amy Nguyen (center) received the Outstanding Technical Contribution Award for her contributions to the U.S. government.
" When my family and I first came to this country, we didn't have anything, but the government provided us assistance that allowed me to have an education," Amy said in her acceptance speech. "I'm where I am because the U.S. has given me an opportunity for a better life. This is the reason why I serve in the government. I do it because I want to give back and I want to contribute to the men and women in uniform who make profound sacrifices in order to protect us."
Pictured with Nguyen is retired Lt. Gen. Nadja Y. West, then surgeon general of the U.S. Army, and Patrick Murray, former undersecretary of the Army.
Nguyen works as a computer scientist in the Software Engineering Center of the Intelligence Electronic Warfare and Sensors Directorate's Army Reprogramming Analysis Team Program Office.
